Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Does all electrical training take place in Gloucester?
We are happy to discuss providing an electrical course at the venue of your choice. Our training centre is in Gloucester and it’s there that we offer the full range of courses listed in this brochure.
Q2. How can I find out the latest information on course availability and prices?
Click to book online or call us on 01452 858170.
Q3. What time do courses normally start and finish?
Most of our courses start at 8.15 and finish at 3.30 but we’re happy to provide further help after the scheduled finish time. Our training sales staff can confirm course timings and we recommend that you carefully check your joining instructions on receipt.
Q4. Are lunches and refreshments provided?
Yes. Unlimited supplies of tea and coffee as well as lunches are provided with every full day course (excluding Advanced Apprenticeship courses and the AM2 test).
Q5. I’m not sure which electrical courses would be most suitable for me. How can I get some advice?
Our training sales staff will be happy to talk you through the best options or refer you to a course lecturer for more advice if needed.
Q6. Can I visit the training centre to find out more before booking?
Yes. Just give us a call to arrange an appointment and we’ll be pleased to show you around.
Q7. How high are the pass rates?
We pride ourselves on achieving high pass rates and will do our best to help candidates with exam preparation. Some exams are more difficult than others so pass rates vary. We recommend that delegates carefully consider the pre-requisites to assess course suitability before booking.
Q8. Is it possible to make payment in instalments?
We can accept a deposit to secure a booking but full payment is usually required before the course start date.
Q9. If an exam is included in my course, when will I find out whether I’ve passed?
For all online electrical exams, results are available immediately. For written exams such as the 2391-10 and 2391-20, papers are marked externally and it can take up to 12 weeks for City & Guilds to issue the results. AM2 test results are normally available within one week.
Q10. How long will it take for my certificate to arrive?
Certificates are usually sent to us within three weeks of the exam date for most courses. For the City & Guilds 2391-10 and 2391-20, certificates are issued at the same time as results (i.e. up to 12 weeks after the exam). AM2 test candidates will receive their certificates directly from NET, usually within two weeks.
Q11. If I’m looking to retrain from scratch, will any Clarkson Evans courses enable me to become a fully qualified electrician?
The recommended route to take for training as an electrician is to complete an Advanced Apprenticeship, which typically takes three years. Knowing the full ‘ins and outs’ of this highly skilled trade requires considerable on-the-job experience but for mature newcomers to the industry our 4-week intensive electrical course is a more realistic option, enabling you to gain the skills and qualifications required to become an electrical domestic installer. Once you’ve gained some experience on site you can then return to us to further your qualifications and progress towards becoming a fully qualified electrician.
Q12. Is it possible to gain electrical work experience with Clarkson Evans?
Yes, if you complete our 4-week intensive electrical course. Several previous delegates have chosen to gain work experience with a Clarkson Evans electrical team. Although unpaid, such work experience can be hard to come by and it provides a valuable insight into what it’s really like to work on site.
We regret that work experience opportunities are not generally available for anyone who hasn’t completed our 4-week intensive course.
