Work Experience – Intensive Electrical Course

Matt Lyons from Herefordshire is one person who’s benefited from the electrical work experience we offer. After deciding he wanted a change from his previous career as a teacher, he enrolled for our intensive electrical course and then arranged to spend four days working on site.

“During the course I gained practical skills as well as technical knowledge, and I made some useful contacts”, said Matt. “And in just four days on site I learned a great deal more. The electrician I worked with was happy to answer my frequent questions and I quickly gained more confidence with my practical skills.”

Electrical Training With Don Hamilton’s Army contract coming to an end, retraining as an electrician seemed the logical choice because of the overlap with the skills he’d already learned.  Don attended our Intensive Electrical Course in March 2010 and has been gaining electrical work experience on site with a Clarkson Evans electrical team for two days a week since September. “During the course having different instructors from a variety of electrical backgrounds gave me a really good insight into the job”, said Don.  “And if you’ve never worked in the trade before, the work experience is a real eye-opener.  So far I’ve been involved with wiring new site offices, first fixing a block of flats, adding to existing installations, and customer care repairs in houses.”Don is now well on the road to becoming a qualified electrician, having enrolled for NVQ3, which can only be achieved by gaining significant on-site electrical experience.
